For my second review I have something a little different. The Ghost Rider on Throne comiquette. The regular version has an edition size of 750 and 300 for the exclusive edition. The Sideshow Exclusive edition also includes a crown which can be attached to the skull. I will be reviewing the exclusive version. The Ghost Rider on Throne comiquette retails for $200 and can still currently be purchased directly from Sideshow Collectibles, though not for much longer as it has a low quantity alert so hurry and get yours before it’s sold out.

Ghost Rider on Throne Wearing Crown

The Ghost Rider comiquette arrived in the standard Sideshow packaging: a brown shipper box with the printed box and statue encased securely in protective styrofoam. The box measures 26.5″ high by 12″ wide. I received edition number 117 of 300. There are four pieces to this Sideshow exclusive statue: throne bottom, throne top, the ghost rider himself and his crown. The top piece of the throne fits into a groove in the bottom piece and is held securely in place by a peg. The crown and Ghost Rider figure are held in place only with magnets, so a little more caution is needed when moving this statue. The magnets are very strong though and should hold everything in place fine while on display.

Ghost Rider On Throne

Detailed skull

The sculpt is superb. Every little detail is finely sculpted, from the spurs on the back of his boots to each tooth in the skull. He looks very menacing sitting on his throne while holding his scepter. This comiquette also has one mixed media element. The chain across his jacket is real, not sculpted, and hangs loose from the body. Also interesting is the weight of the throne. Despite looking like a big chunk of solid polystone, it is surprisingly light suggesting the inside is mostly hollow. The crown is a simple piece, but gives a nice alternative to display him. Personally I think he displays better without the crown. It blocks much of the detail in the eye sockets and skull.

Ghost Rider Crown

Wheres your crown, king nothing?

The paint application is decent enough with a couple exceptions. I would of liked to see more color variation in the clothing. His jeans, jacket and boots almost blend together, like hes wearing a wet suit. The blades of the throne were also inconsistent. The rest of the throne has a nice weathered and beaten texture to its surface, while the blades are very smooth, clean and one-dimensional. I know they were basing this statue on the cover of a comic book, so the design was set, but the blades could have been made a little more rustic and jagged looking. That’s just my opinion though. The stone portion of the throne looks excellent. The steps are stained with mud and it has just enough color in the polished, red gems on the armrest to make it stand out.

Ghost Rider on Throne Side View

Side View

The likeness of this statue is great. Not necessarily to the comic cover it is based on, but to the Ghost Rider himself. That’s a good thing as the animated, cartoonish appearance of Ghost Rider on the comic cover wouldn’t have had quite the impact. Like The Balrog Legendary Scale Bust I reviewed previously, this statue also includes a translucent flame design and absence of a light-up feature. Sideshow seems to do this quite often. I know some collectors don’t like light-up features on statues (neither do I unless it is done RIGHT), but every time I see translucent flames on a piece I hope for it to have some sort of lights, only to be disappointed when it doesn’t.

Conclusion

Overall, I really like this statue a lot despite the paint flaws. It has a lot of eye appeal and is just fun to look at. The paint isn’t the greatest, but adequate enough to not bring down the rest of the piece. The magnetic crown is also a nice touch if you have the Sideshow exclusive version.
