As promised, I’m back with a review on the Uruk-Hai Legendary Scale Bust from Sideshow Collectibles. Like most pieces from Sideshow this one also includes an exclusive edition, however, this review covers the regular version. The Sideshow exclusive includes a switch-out left hand with alternate fist weapon. It’s limited to an edition size of only 100 while 350 of the regular version were produced. I was pleased seeing those numbers as that’s a really low quantity for both versions.

Uruk-Hai Legendary Scale Bust

Uruk-Hai Legendary Scale Bust

As usual, the Uruk-Hai Legendary Scale Bust is shipped in a plain brown shipping box from Sideshow. Inside is the color printed box with statue packed safely. I want go into much detail on packaging in these reviews because for the most part the packing materials and box designs are similar, not just for Sideshow but all manufacturers. Only if the packaging is unusually good (or bad) will I focus on it.

Uruk-Hai Legendary Scale Bust

RAAHHHHHRRR!

Immediately after unboxing this bust I was astonished by the paint detail in the face around the eyes and mouth. He wears a battle helmet so much of the face is shrouded from view. Despite this Sideshow went out of their way to paint the face in extraordinary detail. The eyes are painted gold/yellow and seem to shimmer in direct light. When not in direct light they are just barely visible glaring angrily through the visor of his helmet. The mouth is also extremely detailed, with a set of large, jagged teeth, dark purple tongue and pink gums. Everything inside the mouth has a glossy overcoat that gives a moist appearance and glistens with extreme realism. The Mouth of Sauron would be jealous.

The face wasn’t the only area where extra care was given with paint application. The fingernails are on par with the mouth in detail. His dark red skin has a leathery, tough appearance. The armor and sword have blood stains and battle damage painted throughout. This orc man has slayed his fair share of opponents.

If you are close enough to see his eyes consider yourself dead.

The sculpt is equally as impressive. He is poised and ready to strike in full battle pose. The bust stands roughly 20″ high. Much of that height comes from the large sword he wields in his left hand. The sword measures nearly 12″ in length from hilt to blade tip. I love how the armor is sculpted. There are many small nicks and scratches everywhere with the occasional large gash indicating the many blows this Uruk-Hai  has withstood in combat.

The only flaw I found in the sculpt is with the chainmail located underneath his armor.  These flaws are very minor in nature. At areas where chainmail meets the armor you will notice a loss of detail as the armor slightly smudges together with the chainmail. Like I said this is very minor and given the complex structure of chainmail easily forgivable.

Base Closeup

The base is very simple yet elegant, with a circular design painted with a marbled effect and gold band wrapped around. This gold band is inscripted with an Elvish writing style. It doesn’t distract from the piece and adds a nice amount of flare.

Conclusion

This is about as good a bust you will find in this scale. Along with the Balrog Legendary Scale Bust it is one of my favorite pieces. Everything about this Uruk-Hai LSB is outstanding. The Legendary Scale Bust line from Sideshow has yet to disappoint me. I highly recommend this bust not only for fans of  The Lord of the Rings, but anyone who appreciates superbly sculpted and painted statues.
